Pool Skimmer

Note to the Homeowner

  • Chemicals or sanitation and water balance alone cannot keep your pool clean and inviting and completely prevent algae growth.  Water circulation and filtration and other items are essential as well.
  • Circulation and filtration are also required for sparkling clean pool water. Your filter pump must be run daily, for a sufficient time period, generally eight hours during the summer and four hours during winter, for adequate water circulation and filtration.
  • Regular cleaning and brushing of the pool surfaces, netting of the pool water surface and pool bottom to remove leaves, dirt, and debris is essential.
  • Check and empty the skimmer and pump baskets and the pool cleaner bag, if installed, weekly or more often in the fall and spring and whenever your landscaping is dropping large amounts of debris into your pool. Skimmer baskets can fill up in days and even hours at certain times of the year!
  • Keep trees, shrubs, and all landscaping surrounding your pool trimmed and remove leaves and plant debris from your yard so it will not end up in your pool.
  • Regularly clean your filter cartridges or backwash sand and DE (Diatomaceous Earth) filters.
  • Phosphate removal is performed at an additional charge.
  • Phosphates are fertilizer which causes depletion of chlorine and provides food for algae growth and must be removed.
